Living a healthy lifestyle is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Regularly eating nutritious foods & exercising can improve your physical & mental health in more than one way. The key to maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle is to make small changes everyday. Slowly over time you will begin to notice a change in your appearance, energy levels, & overall health.
Embracing a healthy lifestyle during the ecommerce holiday peak will help you stay on top of your game during the busiest shopping time of the year. We understand it isn’t easy for everyone to quickly jump on the health train, but we believe by implementing some of these healthy habits into your daily life, you will see improvements in your health & stress levels.

Take Mental Breaks

Taking breaks to recharge your body & mind can help reduce stress levels, maintain performance throughout the day, boost your mood, & promote a positive well-being. If you find yourself getting fatigued & unable to focus during work, it would be a good idea to take 10-30 minutes to yourself. This way you can devote your energy to something other than the task at hand & relax. You might not always feel a mental break is necessary, but try to understand why your body might feel a certain way if you do need one. Don’t be afraid to plan a whole mental health day if you need to recharge after you complete a big project. It can be used as a little reward for all your hard work.
Mental health break ideas:

  • Taking a walk or exercising
  • Getting fresh air
  • Changing your environment
  • Eating a healthy snack
  • Meditate or practice deep breathing exercises
  • Drink a cup of coffee or tea

Get Your Body Moving

Regular physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your health — and it isn’t just about improving your physical appearance. Exercise can improve your sleep, boost your mood, & help you deal with depression, anxiety, stress, & more. If you haven’t exercised in a long time it may seem intimidating to get started again. You don’t have to devote a huge amount of time & money to going to a gym. You can start by adding a 15-minute walk into your daily routine. Slowly over time you might find it easier to get moving & you decide to add an extra 10 minutes onto your walk. If you keep your body moving consistently, you will begin to notice the many benefits.

Drink Enough Water

Drinking the right amount of water is the key ingredient to maintaining a healthy body & mind. If your body does not get enough water you can become dehydrated which will lead to unwanted side effects. The good news is, it is so easy to increase your daily water intake & the benefits of doing so are remarkable. Water is responsible for keeping your kidneys healthy, boosting your skin’s appearance, improving digestion, helping prevent headaches, regulating body temperature, aiding in weight loss, & much more. Increasing your daily water intake is a great way to begin improving your health.
Ways to improve your water intake:

  • Carry a water bottle with you & refill it often
  • Eat more fruits & vegetables
  • Try adding lemon, lime, or cucumber to your water for taste
  • Spread out your water intake throughout the day

Focus on Eating Nutritious Foods

It is important to focus on eating nutritious foods whether it’s peak holiday season or not. Food is fuel. If you are giving yourself foods full of sugar (minus a couple Christmas cookies of course) you will notice your body feeling slow & less energized. A healthy diet includes a variety of fruits & vegetables, whole grains & scratches, healthy fats, & lean proteins. Eating healthy foods full of nutrients will help you perform better mentally & physically, aid in weight loss, reduce cancer risk, improve your memory, mood, & gut health. Eating a healthy diet is about balance & making sure your body is getting the necessary nutrients to perform properly. During peak holiday season, we know how important it is to be on top of your ecommerce game!
Ways to improve your diet:

  • Add an extra vegetable to each meal
  • Eat fresh fruit
  • Swap soft drinks for water or tea
  • Pay attention to portion size
  • Eat meatless one day a week
  • Pack your lunch
  • Eat whole foods instead of processed

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is a key component of maintaining your health & well-being. Sleep is just as important as eating healthy or exercising. The average person should be getting 7+ hours of sleep every night. During these times of high stress, getting enough sleep will help your body repair itself & be prepared for the next day. Getting adequate rest may also help prevent excess weight gain, heart disease, & increased illness duration.
Ways to improve your sleep quality:

  • Avoid sleeping in
  • Being active during the day
  • Reducing your stress
  • Go to bed around the same time every night
  • Don’t nap during the day
  • Avoiding caffeine late in the day
  • Put down electronics an hour before bed

Find Ways to De-Stress

With all the extra stress surrounding this year’s holidays, finding ways to relax your body & mind are important for your well-being. Some ways you might enjoy relieving stress could be by reading a book, practicing meditation, stretching your body, making yourself laugh, or even taking a short nap. While you can’t always control things around you, you can control how you react to them. Being prepared with some different easy & effective ways to relieve your stress can help you maintain your mental & physical health.

At the end of the day living a healthy lifestyle is something you need to do for YOU. Making healthy choices isn’t always the easiest or cheapest but it is doing what’s right for your body & mind. If you’re looking to improve your lifestyle, start by making a small change to your daily routine & see how it improves the way you feel.
